XV-2020 Noob Backup Question

Post by jjcousin »

Hi All,

New to the forum.

I purchased a used XV-2020 for use with a Morrison Digital Trumpet (cool).
Luckily for me, it sounded great right "out of the box" ... because it already had the Patchmanmusic soundbanks (for use with a wind controller) already in it (which I confirmed with the PO).

In any case, I'd like to back it up in case something tragic happens like a factory reset...in which case I'd have to buy all the sounds again from Patchmanmusic. Not a big deal, but I figured I should try to back it up.

I've installed XV editor, connected to the XV, and performed a "Save SVD file."
This resulted in the XV-editor seeming to retrieve everything from the 2020 and created a 174kb file on my computer.

Is this good enough?

I see on the Patchmanmusic.com site, they provide the sounds via a sysex file or a standard MID file.

Does this matter?

Thanks to anyone in advance,

jjcousin

Did you use the Editor or the Librarian?

You want to get the all the USER Patch and the USER Performance data with the Librarian. You can then save it as a XVL file or a standard midi file (SMF)

Select Perform in the Mode box then All in the Read box
Select Patch in the Mode box then All in the Read box
File/Export SMF to save it as a Midi file

Go to File/Duplicate
Save the duplicated Library as a XVL (XV library)
