ROLAND XP80 Bootup problem

Post by kooroshi60 »

Hello everyone.
My Xp80 does not boot up. When i turn it on panel board lights goes on normally but LCD stays dead. I have absolutely no output from keyboard. But seems that keys, floppy drive, and logics are working.

So far I have tried changing the battery but it didn't solve the problem.

Can you guys give me some help on this?
Regards
Ciro

Only a service can tell, but my prognosis is main board failure.

Re: ROLAND XP80 Bootup problem (Partially SOLVED!)

I found the solution! There was a short circuit between the -12V and Ground signal in the mainboard. having repaired the pcb tracks, keyboard started to work fine again.
But there is still a problem with the LCD contrast. During the normal work, when I turn on the gear the LCD is blank (low contrasted). In test mode I can see that all the LCD dots are OK but with a low contrast ( even when I set it to maximum).
Any suggestion?

I discovered that in test mode I can change the LCD contrast. Although I changed the contrast to maximum it's still low. Actually if I change it even to 9, the LCD becomes blank!
Do you guys have ever had such an experience before?
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers
