XP-10 LCD screen Replacement

I have an early version Roland XP-10 with a non-backlit lcd screen starting to deteriorate, so I replaced the screen with a genuine part from Roland. Part # 17041537
The new part is backlit and after fitting, the lcd screen lights up but there is no display data.
If I reconnect my old non-backlit lcd screen in the same configuration I get the display data but obviously in its deteriorated state.
Could the new part just be at fault or do I need to install new display drivers somehow for the new display?
