XV5080 thin tinny output problems

Post by jazzygb1 »

Hi,
I've just purchased a 2nd hand XV5080.
I've already got an XP80 and an Integra 7, but my XP80 display is slowly dimming, so it seemed prudent to have a backup. So I purchased the XV5080 to allow me to transfer my sounds from my XP.
The problem is it sounds terrible - to the point that it must be faulty.
It sounds like there's a high pass filter on the analogue outputs - there's no bass end to any sound at all. it's almost like listening to the sound through headphones that are not on your head.
And these are the default sounds I'm talking about here, i've not transferred any sounds over from my XP80 yet.
This problem does not occur through the headphone output, so this seems to be a problem specifically with the analogue outputs themselves, rather than a wrong setting in the system.
I've tried updating the OS and doing a factory reset but the problem remains.
Has anyone else experienced this?
I'd much rather keep the XV5080 if at all possible.
Unless I can get this fault cured it's heading back to the seller which is a pain in the arse, so I'd be grateful for any help.

Thanks

Geoff

Hi Geoff
Sounds like the output caps have dried out.
You will need to either get it serviced or try fixing it yourself.
You might need to get a copy of the circuit before you start.

Sorry

Thanks Royce,
I thought it was a hardware problem, so thanks for confirming my thoughts.
I'll send it back to the seller.

Thanks again

Geoff
