Mint XP-50 Restore Inquiry

I have a mint condition/showroom quality, pampered/very lightly used XP-50 purchased late summer 1996 which has spent an unavoidable 3 years in a climate controlled storage unit without being plugged in.
Does anyone know the drill for getting this straightened out and jump started again?
Evidently the system back-up bat, probably NiCad back then.
Do I try to send it back in to Roland, or can satellite service providers still restore?
Will a Roland retailer have a battery? Is it a proprietary button bat or can this be replaced for a larger or Lithium Ion version of equal voltage for greater longevity insurance?

The battery is a regular "watch type" round battery #2032 and can be purchased anywhere. (drugstore, Walmart, etc.)Take the screws out tne bottom and replace it yourself. (very Easy) Then do do a factory reset and you should be good to go.
