M-VS1 hum on main outputs

Post by Nuts_milk »

Hi guys, posted this here because the M- "Sound Expansion" series is based on JV expansion cards. Basically it was a JV expansion card in 19" rack form.

Anyway, i got a M-VS1 very cheap, it works fine except when i went to plug in the outputs on the rear there was a nasty loud 60hz ground loop hum. However, it was not present on the headphone output. I managed to make the rear output usable by putting in-line a cheap ground loop isolator.

Is it likely the output jack might be damaged, if so, how could i check for that? Is there any chance this is a sign the synth needs its capacitors replaced? Could a cracked solder joint do this? Not sure where to go with this, since there are no loose cables in the synth when i opened it to check.
