JV-880 expansion board limit
I've got the orchestral expansion board on an 880, I can load 64 patches into internal and 64 into my PCM card and the other 128 are unavailable. I've read that on the JV1080 and above models one can just install the expansion card and all patches automatically load into the synth and are available via display menu and you don't have to transfer patches into memory. Is this true? My fantasy module would have only those 256 patches and zero presets, I love it that much.

The SR-JV80-02 Orchestral Expansion or the SR-JV80-16 Orchestral II?arcticranger wrote: ↑22:43, 27 July 2023 I've got the orchestral expansion board on an 880, I can load 64 patches into internal and 64 into my PCM card and the other 128 are unavailable. Roland has recycled these waveforms and tones many times. For example, you can find the former on the XP-30, which you can find on the used market for about the same price as a JV-880 + 1 SR-JV80 expansion board.
AIUI, SRX-06 Complete Orchestra contains all of SR-JV80-02, SR-JV80-13 and SR-JV80-16. This expansion board turned it a virtual expansion board, which can be downloaded for free for some newer Roland products. For example:
- FA-06/07/08: https://axial.roland.com/articles/exp-1 ... ollection/
- Juno DS: https://axial.roland.com/articles/exp-1 ... ection-ds/
- Fantom-6/7/8: https://axial.roland.com/articles/exz007_exz_orchestra/
So, depending on what you exactly need, there might be affordable alternatives without the limitations of the JV-880.

Re: JV-880 expansion board limit
Yes, it's true. Only the Roland JV-80 and JV-880 need to transfer the patches from the card, the other Roland instruments (e.g. JV-90, JV-1000, JV-1080) can use them directly.
