JP-8000 not saving user patches.

Hi yall, just got a JP-8000 last week and it will not save any user created patches. I get an initialized patch and it says it saves, but when I turn the synth off it doesn't save the patch. I read the manual and did what it said to save a patch. The previous owner stated that he replaced the battery. Does this have a memory protect on it that I'm not seeing? Or did the battery somehow die again? Thanks in advance
