One more JP8000 ribbon controller problem

Post by maxxDM »

Hi there!

I have two JP8000s and ribbon controllers work different. I'd like to found out which one works correctly.

1) First one. When I enter the test menu and select ribbon test display shows OFF which is normal, according to service notes. After the calibration procces when "*" appears I press the "UP" button and the value is always 127. If I touch the sensor it corresponds corretly (from 0 to 255), but after releasing it always goes back to 127.

2) Second one. During the calibration display shows unstable value like 8CF (it never shows OFF). After the calibration the value is always zero. If I touch the sensor from left to right it goes from 0 to 255 normally, but after releasing it goes back to zero (left position).

Factory presets sound different on both JPs, becuase one ribbon controller is always in center position, another one is stuck in left position. Which one is normal or both are crap?

Sorry for my Engilsh, not a native speaker.

Kindest regards
Maxim

Hi Maxim,

Firstly, congrats for TWO JP-8000, that's a very fine synthesizer model.

Based on your description I suspect that both ribbon sensors are defective.
Unfortunately sensors often seem to develop issues after years of usage.
Maybe no other chance but to get them replaced by new (original / similar) parts.
Please see my other postings on this subject for reference.

Good luck with everything!

Cheers,
