Load SRX boards when opening different songs?

Post by acerimmer »

I have an Integra 7 module in my setup and have contacted Roland support twice bout this but have had no response...How do I load different SRX boards when selecting songs in Sonar? What I mean to say is I do a lot of different styles which require different sounds so how can I load the correct boards for the correct sounds from Sonar or is it even possible? It's a real pain having to go in and load the boards from the front panel every time I load a different song.
Thanks for your help in setting me straight in this matter.

I'm not familiar with SONAR, but you should be able to do that yes.

You need to send the following MIDI Data:
- Bank: 085 (Decimal)
- Channel 16 bank LSB: 000
- Channel 16 MSB:000 (Studioset1) --> 063 (Studioset 64)

For example:
Select StudioSet 1
in HEX: BF 00 55 BF 20 00 CF 00 (00= 0= 00 Decimal = StudioSet 1)

Select StudioSet 22
in HEX: BF 00 55 BF 20 00 CF 15 (15H= 16+4+1= 21 Decimal = StudioSet 22)

Select StudioSet 23
in HEX: BF 00 55 BF 20 00 CF 16 (16H= 16+4+2= 22 Decimal = StudioSet 23)

Select StudioSet 64
in HEX: BF 00 55 BF 20 00 CF 3F (3FH= 32+16+8+4+2+1= 63 Decimal = StudioSet 64)

I don't do this from my DAW and understand that for automating your performance that would be nice, but in my case I use it from the MIDI Keyboard Controller, as for me it is the easiest way to switch StudioSets

EDITED: I was answering to your question and completely forgot about your main aim: To load different SRX when changing StudioSets, all controlled by SONAR, and I'm sorry for that (answering Posts late night...:-))

Well, you can do it via MIDI too, but the best suggestion while there is no VST support is to use our Clan colleague K_Take's EDITOR like suggested by BalkoDK

One other thing that you need to bear in mind is that when changing SRX boards, the new ones have to be loaded into the appropriate SLOT memory, and that takes a few seconds

As i understand the question you want to know how to switch SRX boards (load 4 new expansions). You cannot do this by just switching StudioSets. I to have contacted Roland and they will not give the information.

It is possibly to do it as the iPad editor can switch expansion boards - but how to do it (program it) Roland has informed me is confidential.

You can also activate the Preview sound funktion (the Volume Push button) from the iPad editor - this is also confidential according Roland.

Please share it if someone has information how to do it (K_Take mayby?)

Now is not really possible to change SRX boards automatically when selecting songs / studio sets (using CC od SysEx massage). You have to do it manually (from the front panel or with iPad editor) ...

Two more options:
1- using the Roland Mac OS X Editor (AU)
Or
2- using the PC / Windows based Standalone K_Take's Editor

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and help. I will try the K-Take editor and see how I get on. Originally when I got the Integra I installed the Roland editor on my Ipad but have a hard time using it with different sets.
Thanks again for your help, I'll let you know how I progress...maybe someone else will also benefit from my experience.

There is always a learning curve for everything, and it's good that we can share our difficulties and experiences so someone else benefits from them.

Hi everyone,
I installed the windows editor as suggested and it works good, it can load the SRX expansion boards from the software but again, you can only do it once. You cannot save a file of a setup and then write it to the module and it loads the correct cards in so I am still at square one. I have contacted the author of the editor to see if he can help me because obviously it is possible to do it via software. You can also load the expansion cards from the Ipad editor by dragging and dropping the card into the appropriate slot but here again, this is all done manually. Because of the fair number of different styles of music I do, it is going to be very hard to remember which cards are loaded to go with which sequence. There has to be a way to automate this through sysex messaging or something. I can't believe I am the only person having this issue.
Anyway, this is where I am at so if anything else comes to mind please feel free to write a reply.
Thanks very much

I also belive it can be done using some undocumented sysex- and I frankly don't understand why Roland has to keep this information an big secret. It can be done! - no doubt!

Last year I tried to contact the author of the editor (K_Take) by e-mail - but never recieved an answer.

Please share if you (or someone else) gets the information.

No it seems that is not a big secret after all.

Just monitored the MIDI Data sent between the Integra and the MAC Editor and then simulated that on my MIDI Keyboard Controller and it works fine, so it's just a matter of configuring the most used Slot Assignments on a few buttons or doing the change by using a program.

Follows some examples of SySex Messages that should be sent in order to change the SRX/ExSN assignments on to the 4 Slots:

F0 41 10 00 00 64 11 0F 00 30 00 AA BB CC DD 30 10 F7

AA - Slot A (1)
BB - Slot B (2)
CC - Slot C (3)
DD - Slot D (4)

(AA, BB, CC, DD) Values
[*] 00 = OFF
[*] 01 = SRX01
[*] 02 = SRX02
[*] 03 = SRX03
[*] 04 = SRX04
[*] 05 = SRX05
[*] 06 = SRX06
[*] 07 = SRX07
[*] 08 = SRX08
[*] 09 = SRX09
[*] 0A = SRX10
[*] 0B = SRX11
[*] 0C = SRX12
[*] 0D = ExSN1
[*] 0E = ExSN2
[*] 0F = ExSN3
[*] 10 = ExSN4
[*] 11 = ExSN5
[*] 12 = ExSN6
[*] 13 or higher HQPCM (Applies to the 4 Slots)

Examples:

1-Clearing ALL Slot assignments (SLOT A, B,C,D= OFF):

F0 41 10 00 00 64 11 0F 00 30 00 00 00 00 00 30 10 F7

2- ExSN3 on Slot A, ExSN4 on Slot B, SRX06 on Slot C and SRX07 on Slot D

F0 41 10 00 00 64 11 0F 00 30 00 0F 10 06 07 30 10 F7

3- SRX02 on Slot A, SRX03 on Slot B, SRX05 on Slot C and SRX12 on Slot D

F0 41 10 00 00 64 11 0F 00 30 00 02 03 05 0C 30 10 F7

I hope this gives our fellow programmers some ideas ;-)

Thanks very much PauloF - just tried it on my own Windows program - it works just fine ;-).

Good work :-) !!!! - Great applause!!!!

You can also activate the Preview sound funktion (the Volume Push button) I guess using undocumented sysex - with and witout the shift button pressed. Do you have a solution here too?

This just made my day :-)

Thank you so much for sharing this, I have spent months trying different angles and nothing seemed to work. This is what I was looking for...why can't Roland include that in their manual for the Integra 7? It takes members like you to figure this out for the ones like me who dabble but can't go too far.
Thank you once again and I agree a job well done and huge applause!

Muito obrigado, Paulo!

I have created some files for Fantom-G owners that make use of the secrets you have uncovered:

Fantom-G files for setting Integra-7 expansions
