Reverb 'rooms and halls'...characteristics of each?

Post by ccmillar »

Something I've been wondering about ever since I got my XP-80 (which I'll never give up!) and my JV-2080 (a keeper as well, seeing as it has some sounds that never made it to the Integra).......

I obviously hear the differences between the 'Room' reverbs and the 'Hall' reverbs.

But, how do some of you describe the subtle differences between the 2 Rooms and the 2 Halls?

(.... I know....you can send sounds out to an external reverb, which I did a lot with my XP-80, or we can adjust instrument spaces and distances and use the Integra's Motion Reverb as welll...)

However, what about the two built-in reverbs, which really aren't that terrible.

- can you describe the differences in high dampening, pre-delay, actual room sizes or hall sizes?
- any of you have favourite internal reverb settings for certain situations?
- is 'Hall 2' subjectively smoother than 'Hall 1'?
- do you reserve 'Hall 1' or '2' for larger ensemble emulations?
- etc. etc.

Thanks all!
