Is anyone using the official roland editor?

Post by knobacon »

The sliders for selecting the wave files in the tone edit pages aren't calibrated correctly. There is no way to smoothly scroll through all the wave files. It jumps by about 10 every time I touch the slider. Is there really no fine control via a Shift+Mouse action? This applies to other sliders as well.

I've been holding off on trying the other editor because I would have to update my Windows Netframe stuff and my DAW is extremely stable. I guess I will have to try though.

It's not very good, use the one by kTake, just open it up alongside the DAW. No need for Full VST integration.

Yeah, use K_Take's standalone editor, the official one is a piece of bloated crap!

Got a few observations that I would like to get some comments on to see if I am missing something...

The official editor seems to load/read slow and sometimes hangs.

It is not very well integrated with apps like Cubase. VSTs from Native Instruments (such as Kontakt) have much better integration. For example, if you change the volume in the track the volume in the Kontakt VST moves accordingly (and vice-versa) - they are in sync. With the Integra VST, changing the volume on the track affects the hardware unit but does not update the VST, that requires a manual "read" which as per above is slow and not very practical. Same thing applies to program changes from the track (and vice versa)
It would be nice if changes in one place actually syncs with the other, i.e. changing volume via the track should update the VST (and vice versa) as well as the hardware. That way saving the cubase file and then reloading would bring back all parameters in both VST and track/inspector.

I really like K_Take's editor and for browsing and exploring - it is really good. It would be really great if there was a VST version of this so that everything can be saved with the cubase file and automatically reloaded when the cubase project is opened. That would make it a much more practical app if it had the option to be integrated into DAW.

Interested to see if anyone has comments/thoughts about this...
