Newb Question 1: getting the iPad editor to work

Hello
Recently bought an Integra 7 to be used by the keyboard player in our band. Setup: A49 controller plugged via 5-pin din cable into Integra's Midi In, L and R Mix XLRs sent to 2 inputs on my Behringer X32 Rack, which feeds our house PA and the DAW (Reaper).
I had problems getting the Integra to recognize my LAN (I am using the Onkyo UWF-1 dongle) till I installed 1.21 (upgraded from 1.20)
The minute I installed the new firmware, the Integra instantly recognized the LAN. Logged into the same network with my iPad, and the handshake seems to be made. I can call up a custom user-defined Studio Set on the iPad, and all the right parts appear, so the iPad and the Integra must be "talking together".

But the iPad doesn't appear to be controlling the Integra. When I select a Part from a Studio Set with the iPad, the Preview function in the iPad results in the right tone being played out the Integra's headphone jack. But the part "active" on the Integra doesn't change to the selection made with the iPad (when I use the Integra's Preview function by pushing in its volume control I get the tone of the Part selected on the Integra, not the iPad. And when the A49 keyboard is played, the tone is the Part selected on the Integra, not the iPad.

Am i missing something? I was hoping to tuck the Integra away in a rack case and have the keyboard player control it with the iPad. Is there some setting on the Integra I have to adjust to make it take instructions on from the iPad?

See my answer to your other question. I'm pretty sure this will solve this problem too...

Thank you so much for your reply about how to get multiple Parts to "sound" simultaneously. Using Parts View / Level-Channel, I assigned all the horns to chanel 1 and....it does exactly as one would hope. I can adjust levels and panning through this screen and the A49 "plays" this channel. Using the A49's Function button and the first 16 keys, I can choose midi channel the keybord "plays". So far, so good, and I am very grateful for this simple fix. However, this doesn't seem to have done anything towards fully "empowering" that iPad Editor to take control over the Integra.

Once again, the iPAd and the Integra are connected via one of my LANs. I see all my user-defined Parts in the Studio Set I select, and Previewing any of these parts with the iPad Editor sends the right sound to the Integra's L and R Mix Out XLRs, but none of this seems to have any bearing on what the A49 keys produce as a sound output from the Integra - this seems to be completely controlled by the Integra and the Midi Channel I have selected with the keyboard's Function button and first 16 keys.

Sorry if I am not explaining this clearly. Boiled down to its simplest expression, is there a way for the iPad Editor to control the sound that the A49 produces with the Integra? I guess another way to put would be: can the iPad editor control the active Midi Channel the A49 and the Integra are using?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Yes! Which is why I've wrote that my answer to your other question also apply to this question :)

This being said you have to understand that the ipad editor is not a controller and is not intended to 'control' the sound. This is what your A49, or any other controller, is supposed to do. Just think about how confusing this would be if you were using a DAW with the Integra while also controlling it this way from an ipad ....

You have to first understand that all the midi channels are in fact active at all time (normally), even when muted. You can see this by looking at the midi indicator on the Integra. This doesn't work the way you think it is. Basically you have 16 part each responding to a given midi channel. There's no such thing as activating a channel, beyond mute/un-mute.

Now, there's a way to do what you want if you really want to 'cheat' and use the ipad as a controller. For this you will simply go to the "Part view" screen by clicking on the second icon on the right of the word INTEGRA on the ipad. From there you can change the midi channel , or any other values, by touching and dragging up or down. (yeah, this is a bit counter intuitive). You can also do this directly on the Integra if you want.

You will then set say all 16 parts to midi channel 1. Once done you will be able to 'activate' the parts you want by muting all the others, using the 'M' button on the Mixer screen (first screen). Note that I STRONGLY advise against doing that as this will defeat the purpose of your controller. It is better done from the controller side, where it is supposed to be done. You may also quickly run out of voices this way...

Once again, much thanks. I will spend a couple of hours going through this and perhaps re-thinking my approach. I have no keyboard or midi experience other than three or four decades in the music bizz associating with keyboard players as a drummer and recording engineer. Bought the Integra on a whim - I was on a business trip and saw it for sale at a good price on Craigs List. The plan was to get the band better horn sounds than the cheesy presets on the keyboard player's cheap Korg. It would probably be helpful if I read through the A49 manual and tried to better understand the role that the controller plays in all this (to me it was mainly triggering the notes for the Integra to play.

Thanks again
