Ipad connection issue

Post by Eddieriff »

Hi
I occasionally connect my VR-09 and motif xf to my iPad to play some of the 'soft synths' etc.
Just tried to for do this with my FA-06 and I get the message "Cannot Use Device" FA-06 08: the connected device is not supported"
Does anyone know if there is a solution to this?

Many thanks Eddie

What do you use to connect your Ipad? I use IK multimedia midi rig and it works OK
it does not work with the apple camera ....kit.
I had that problem with my MOXF 61, had no problem with my MOX 88
but when I bought My MOXF the ipad gave me the message ''cannot.....''

Probably a modification or particularity in the system of a particular keyboard
that mess the thing.

Thanks for that.

I have only tried the lightning connector as that worked fine with the other boards, so I will get the bit of kit you suggested.

I've found that issues with other usb midi keyboards are fixed by passing through an unpowered USB hub/splitter. This one is ideal: http://geni.us/gNW

Apparently it works because the ipad doesn't provide enough power to some devices. Passing through an unpowered hub tricks the iPad into providing more power, which then makes it work.

Has anyone on here got their FA-06/08 connected directly to an iPad without the need for a USB to midi adapter? Either connecting to the camera connection kit directly or by using a USB hub like DaMaul suggests.

I'd really like to use some soft synths on my ipad and use the ipad to create some sysex drawbars for the tone wheel organs on the FA-06.

Thanks.

I do not have an FA but I use the WNA1100-RL wireless USB adapter with my Jupiter-80 and 50s.
That could be helpful. I like using the USB adapter because it makes less clutter with out having another wire in the way.

Try Music IO from Apple's iPad App Store. MIDI & Audio via USB cable to your Mac (Windows not yet supported, but soon) then just route it to whatever MIDI device you want.

Works like a charm.

ugh. trying this with FA08 and an iPad 2 Air IS 8.4 and no luck! :(
- Apple Camera Connect Kit: NO (well that was an expensive, useless wire.)
+ powered USB hub: still NO
+ unpowered USB hub: still NO

I connected my iPad Air 2 directly with the FA-06 via the lightning-cable without problems.

@oddjob: I created a drawbar-template on Midi Designer, it works very well!
