String Resonance not working at all

Post by madAhorn »

The Sting Resonance Dial makes no adjustment to the sound of my FA-06 whatsoever on any of the Supernatural Piano patches regardless of sustain pedal use.
All of the other dials make an audible change.

Not good!

This is what the parameter guide says that it does.

String Resonance 0–127
When the keys are pressed on an acoustic piano, the strings for keys that are already pressed
also vibrate sympathetically. The function used to reproduce is called “String Resonance.”
Increasing the value will increase the amount of effect.

Key Off Resonance 0–127
This adjusts resonances such as the key-off sound of an acoustic piano (subtle sounds that
are heard when you release a key).
Higher values will increase the volume of the resonances.

I cannot hear much difference.

String Resonance is a very subtle effect. You can hear it more clearly by doing the following:

1) Make sure the String Resonance parameter is set to a reasonably high value. 64 is good; 127, better.

2) Press the C4 key so gently that it produces no sound, and hold down the key.

3) Slam the F2 key at maximum velocity and immediately release it.

4) You should hear the note C4 sounding softly (i.e. resonating) as long as you hold down the C4 key.

That is a shame.

It is for sure not a subtle effect on my soft synths or my Yamaha CP5 (Sustain Pedal only)
It makes a big difference in realism especially for sustained notes...
Of course, on a real piano, it is no subtle effect either...

I hope they improve that one in time...

Thanks JunoJohn

To clarify, I am quite happy with the piano sounds, just wish for adjustable sustain pedal string resonance...
