This very forum has an attach file feature, does it not? That, to me, would be the most obvious and sensible option, but that's just me...

Thanks, Willem. I couldn't believe 4Share forces you to download their silly download manager which is full of stuff you don't want and can't use! Now, for your next trick :-) could you upload that other file that shows up on that page, the dance pack?

And I wonder why instrument definition files aren't allowed in here. Of all places for them not to be allowed, eh?

at the risk of sounding stoopid...

What does the .ins file allow you to do in combination with the Sonar app?

Sonar keeps a master "database," if you will, of all instrument definitions. These .INS files are used in the import function. Cakewalk has never been forthcoming about officially documenting how to create instrument definition files, but if one looks at the master, one can pretty easily sort out what's required and in what format.

The ins files are instrument definitions within sonar . In other words cakewalk sonar with the ins files gives you the oppertionity to select and see the names of all studio sets / drum kits and tones for the FA synths .
Ones selected a set , kit or tone sonar wil send a patch chance to the FA .

When using a DAW as centre piece of your setup( home studio ) in combination with other synths this is a easy way to select tones for all your synths .

There are no stupid questions , answers on the other hand can be .............

Mine is ????

Hi Willem. Thank you. Your effort is very much appreciated. I am happy to say that your .ins files do generally work well except for the DrumKit.ins file which doesn't really function as it should. I wish I knew how to create an instrument definition file as I would really like to help to improve it. but thanks all the same. Btw, has anyone got a suggestion as to how to fine tune the .ins files? I went to do a search, but I can't find a really good guide to help. Cheers!

Hi Jaffar and others ,

you're absolutely right , drumkits dit not send patch change to the FA .
caused by wrong msb/lsb total number .

But there is hope for the future ,

In the attachment you will find the updated ins file .

drumkits patch change = working
controller names for use in Piano Roll View are added .

have fun .

regards Willem H
