How to keep the glossy FA surface clean?
How to keep the glossy FA surface clean?
Is there any chance (beside using a dust cover) to keep the glossy surface free of dust?
Re: How to keep the glossy FA surface clean?
All synths gather dust - just depends on how much dust is around!
I have 8 bits of gear out at all times and the FA attracts no more or no less than the non-glossy ones.
Every two weeks I dust all of them. Once a month I use a camera-type blow-brush for the sliders/faders/screen corners.

To keep the glossy surface free of dust on my FA-06 I use this dust cover:Fantomtom wrote:Is there any chance (beside using a dust cover) to keep the glossy surface free of dust?

And to carry my FA-06 I use this carrying bag:

I dust my stuff every few weeks, and use a soft brush around the knobs and faders of things. However, I've noticed that the FA now has thousands of tiny scratches on the black, glossy surface, so I no longer use the brush on it.
Re: How to keep the glossy FA surface clean?
I used one of those little black Apple display cloths that come with MacBook Pros and iMac to clean the display but it put those fine little swirl mark scratches on it. Gonna try that Novus plastic scratch kit on a small spot in the corner to see if I can get rid of the fine scratches.
Re: How to keep the glossy FA surface clean?
I'm tempted to take all the knobs off mine and attack it with one of these - that way I'll have an even spread of scratches and new ones won't show up and I won't have to worry about it any more!

Yes, one step further you can use these cheap abrazo pads, and you'll never have any trouble with a dirty or scratched surface!

So does this really work? I'm looking for a solution. I have just a couple small spots where there are some very fine scratches, but I don't want to make any more! When not in use I have a custom made vinyl dust cover by some company in Texas.

I emailed them directly and they custom made a vinyl cover (their prices are for cloth) for my old Roland 300GX. Cost me about $55 shipped. It fits the FA-08 perfect!

I have discovered this cool panel overlay. I wish they would produce some for the FA. Maybe we could order together and they will make some custom panels if we can gain sufficient demand...

bennyseven,
I saw this site earlier today and think it's fantastic - thanks for sharing! I was bummed that they didn't offer more overlays for other instruments.
I am definitely interested in getting an overlay for the FA08 and would be willing to pay a fair price to protect the instrument. I hope Roland brings back the matte look. My Juno-Gi still looks brand new and polishes up quite nice.

Re: How to keep the glossy FA surface clean?
I do the same as Espanol, all my keyboards are covered in elastic dust covers in the studio and I also have Gator gig bags for all units which I bought from Long & McQuade Toronto when I bought each keyboard for hauling them around. I do think that the Roland FA-06 is going to subject to finger marks and scratches due to it's glossy black finish and I don't think that marks are going to come off well with the plastic finish. My M3, Korg Krome, Hammond SK2 do not have shiny surfaces, I expect that the Roland is going to show wear much more readily than the other gigging keyboards.

Put the small brush on the vacuum cleaner or use a paintbrush with the vaccum cleaner. The use a very lightlty damped cloth, use only water to to wipe of any grease.
Looks like new for about half an hour!

Hello Roland Clan Community,
I've contacted Jamie at synthgraphics.com. If we can somehow put together a bulk order of 10-15 overlays (they will be matte), he said he would figure out a way to make the panels for us (he said he currently does not have an FA-08).
At the moment, I do not know what the cost is; I was not given an estimate.
Is there any interest? If so, please chime in!
