Playing samples with the keys (not the pads)
Playing samples with the keys (not the pads)
Hi there,
I'm a new user (owner of VSynth XT, JV2080, Juno Stage, Juno-G) and I'm looking at replacing the Juno-G with FA-06.
I read the manual and while I got how to import and play samples (wav files in my case) from the pads on the right, I'd like to know if I can play samples from the keys (black and whites...), before buying it.
If anyone could be of help, that would be great.
Thanks
Michele

Re: Playing samples with the keys (not the pads)
You can trigger samples from the keyboard but you cannot PLAY samples across the keyboard in the manner of a traditional sampler i.e. changing the pitch up and down the keys.
Re: Playing samples with the keys (not the pads)
Right, thanks CDA.
I have browsed the forums and found how to link a sample on the pad to a key, so for now I'm good :)
Guess I'l get the FA06, anyway my Juno-G is dead...

This youtube Video is a FA 06 with a sample of an accordion on each of the 64 sample pads.

Hey Mguerani,
Can you post the URL of the post that steps through how to link a sample from a pad to a key on the keyboard? I'd really appreciate it, I don't have much luck with the search function sometimes!
Cheers

Re: Playing samples with the keys (not the pads)
Ok, managed to play the samples from the keys.. but the problem is that all the keys are mapped to samples.
What I'd like to have is this :
C1 : when pressed it will play a sample
G1 : when pressed it will play a sample
C2 : when pressed it will play a sample
D2 : when pressed it will play a sample
Keyboard split at F2 (or similar)
From F2 upwards I must be able to play a patch (no samples).

Re: Playing samples with the keys (not the pads)
Hi, yes you can do this, just create several splits using a studio set. So one split will just consist of C1 for example. You still need to load the correct sample on to the correct pad though and set the split to play the pad.Mguerani wrote:Ok, managed to play the samples from the keys.. but the problem is that all the keys are mapped to samples.

Or if all your samples are below F2 then you just need one split below that set to pads and one above to keyboard. The four sampled notes will then only play because you have samples loaded to just those relevant pads.
I hope this helps,
Alan.

Re: Playing samples with the keys (not the pads)
Hi Alan, as far as I know, this is not possible. If you want to play the PAD PART on the keys, you must select this part with the cursor. But then all other parts are disabled from the keys. Did you check this out? bw, BennySeven

Hi. This is possible, you can play up to 16 splits/parts from the keyboard in the Studio Sets mode. And one of this can be the pad's part. Page 44 in the reference manual is the key!!

very cool! thank you. Was definitely missung this feature and did'nt know.
Re: Playing samples with the keys (not the pads)
Hi all,
I wish to thank you all, I just managed to this.
I had to assign the pad part select to part 2 so I could get it in my studio set.
Took me only a few months to figure that out.

Re: Playing samples with the keys (not the pads)
Few more notes:
Triggering the samples using the keys gives you the advantage of velocity sensitive samples which is not supported by the pads.
The mapped keys are fixed, I didn't find a way to successfully transpose part 16 in order to match specific keys for specific samples. E.g. I couldn't find a way to map the leftmost keys in FA 08 (88 keys). You can do that using an external MIDI controller though.

Re: Playing samples with the keys (not the pads)
Yes, I couldn't find a way to transpose them either. I don't like that in most of the cases I need to move my hand from the keys to the pads. Let's hope in a firmware upgrade..? Roland ? hint..hint...
