Question about Master eq and some patch

Post by CgBlonde »

Hi guys.

My name is Rafael and I'm new is this forum.

Well, I have 2 question to share with you about the Roland Fa-06:

1. About the "Master Eq".
Well.. Yesterday I was adjusting some values of the Master eq. E.g, I set the low frecuency from 100 to 200 hz and the gain from 0 to +5 db. The "audio effect" was perceptible (I mean, I could hear the bass boost). Well, to avoid to loss the settings, I applied "Write" and the display showed "Write complete".

By the way, the synth was in "Single tone" mode.

Well, then I changed to another patch/tone and the settings of the Master eq was lost !!..But not at all !..The low frecuency remains in 200, but the gain level was in "0" !

This "behaviour" is ok ?.. I understand that the settings must remain because I used "Write"

2. About the Ex03 expansion.
Does anybody of you have installed the Ex03 expansion ?. If yes, could you select the "Hot salsa" patch (Ex03, patch 0035, "solo brass" filter) and do the following test (much better with headphones):

(without transponse, I mean, normal)

a. Play "G" key only and listen to.. (I don´t know the key number -> The "G" just below the "Fx/Other" button)
b. Play "G" and "B" keys (at the same time) and listen to ("G" below the "Fx/Other" button and "B" below "Shift" button).

When I play "G" key only it sounds ok, but If I play "G" plus "B" keys , at the same time, the sound is a little bit "crunchy-distorted". I think this is wrong.

So, could you check if you get the same sound results ?

Thanks.

Ps: Sorry for my awfull english :)

1. I do not think you did what you said you did.

2. My trumpets sound fine, but if you set your gain to +5 they might just sound a little bit crunchy, especially if you press on the keys a little hard.

It could be whatever you're outputting too (Amp/headphones) of course, i.e. you may just have the volume clipping. There is a global setting for volume output, make sure that's not higher than default.

Thanks Skijumptoes for the suggestion.

I tried applaying "Set factory defaults" and using headphones : the "hot salsa" sounds a little bit distorted and, also, i can´t save the "master eq" settings. :-(

I will have a test with the settings too, so you get a second verdict.

As for master EQ settings, i don't use them, but imagine that they are saved in a studio set - so you need to make sure you're in a studio set, and then change the presets on a part basis to ensure you remain in the studio set, doing it this way also allows you to set the EQ individually for each part of course.

I use the part EQ settings, not master.

Also, don't forget that the Tone knob gives you instant EQ settings for the master.

You also might want to apply the latest firmware.
What does Roland think the problem is?

I wrote the local settings out to System, turned if off/on and they stuck!
So I can't tell you why your settings didn't keep totally. They should have.

I believe system settings are internal to the FA-08 and not on a song basis.

Don't wait to return it and get a replacement if your time is short.
Roland support should be available to help, also.

I contacted Roland support by email, but I still don´t have answer from them.
