Opening the Roland FA binaries

Has anyone tried opening up the FA binaries in the FA 1.03 firmware update (or any other FA firmware)?

Have tried with Archive Utility and The Unarchiver on my Mac and got to the _tmp folder level.
Trying to open anything under that and both programs think the BIN archives are corrupted.

File names are interesting... fantom_c_up.bin, fantom_e_up.bin, fantom_s_up.bin.
Perhaps there is more of the Fantom inside than on the surface level.

Trying to find some modding possibilities outside of the screensaver. The FA is a computer inside a midi keyboard, they have to exist somewhere.

Hi,

im always interested in reverse engineering things, but i would recommend you to spend your efforts on the wave expansions rather than the firmware.

I imagine a exp editor for windows would be a great thing.

I agree, if someone could hack an EXP .bin file and make an editor it sure would be great, maybe you would be able to make EXP bank files with your own samples! :-)
Cheers
