Wind (FX) sound - how to get a good one?

Post by Stealth »

I was very sad to realize that my FA-06 has no acceptable wind sound, not even on the SRX cards. On the old SR-JV80 "Vintage Synth" card, there was one excellent, sublime, low pitch, no overblown sound:

243 (D73) Deep Wind

Is there some solution to get that sound to my FA-06?

There are several Wind waveforms onboard the FA (starting around #565 in the waveform list). You can select a waveform you like then use the synth parameters (eg filter and ASDR) to adjust to get closer to what you are looking for.

Do you still have the old keyboard? You could just sample it in!!!!

If not you could find a wav file of a wind sound effect online and sample it in!!!!

I have a lot of sound effects like this in my Sound Canvas that the FA doesn't have which was disappointing. Keeps my SC relevant I suppose.

Thank you both for ideas.

I do not have anymore my old boards, a real shame that I sold them. I already tried some online wav files, but never found anything so clean and sublime like that patch.

Try processing the wind pcms or sns noise through a stereo flanger. It gives a nice stereo image and takes/gives frequencies as it swirls. Sounds more natural to my ears. Also it does not swamp a mix.
