How to assign imported samples to specific keyboard keys ?

Hi all -
Apologies if this has already been asked but....I tried a couple searches and didn't find what I was looking for.
Two questions:
1. When I import a sample into one of the pads, how can I control what key on the keyboard it is assigned to ?
2. And after I've done this, is it possible to transpose the pitch of the sample to a higher or lower key ? I tried doing this after importing a sample but it didn't seem to work. Maybe I was doing something wrong or perhaps its not possible.....?
