Shift is your friend: Reenter to Arpeggio screen

Post by RoDi »

May be this helps somebody else, since it took me really a while to figure out.

I like to jam to the Arpeggio. Usually I start the arpeggiator, then switch over to the drum. However I was not able to reenter the Arpeggio screen, e.g. to change style or motif, without stopping the arpeggiator. With the drums no problem.

Finally I remember Ed Diaz: "Shift is your friend". And he is right, it is. If you press shift+Arpeggio you renter the Arpeggio screen without disturbing the current settings! Same for Chord Memory.

Shift really is your friend, even on other Roland products. I found this out about the arpeggiator too. I just experiment with different shift combinations and see what happens. Here is a list of shift commands and other shortcuts that I've found. Some of these may be obvious but I thought it would be helpful to somebody.

Shift commands and other helpful shortcuts:

When on setting screens, switch between tabs
[Shift] + [◄]
[Shift] + [►]

When on Tone List, scroll to next bank
[Shift] + [▲]
[Shift] + [▼]

When on other menus, scroll rapidly
[Shift] + [▲]
[Shift] + [▼]
[Shift] + Dial

Change a value rapidly
[Shift] + [INC]
[Shift] + [DEC]

While holding one button down, press the other to scroll or change a value rapidly
[INC] + [DEC]
[▲] + [▼]
[◄] + [►]

Go to Favorite List
[Shift] + [Favorite]

Keep preview turned on
[Shift] + [Preview]

Go to S1/S2 assign
[Shift] + [S1]
[Shift] + [S2]

Go to D-Beam setup
[Shift] + [Solo Synth]
[Shift] + [Expression]
[Shift] + [Assignable]

Go to knob assign
[Shift] + Sound Modify Knob

Go to Mixer
[Shift] + [Sequencer]

Go to arpeggiato settings without turning it on/off
[Shift] + [Arpeggio]

Go to chord memory settings without turning it on/off
[Shift] + [Chord Memory]

Go to loop settings
[Shift] + [Loop]

Go to step sequencer
[Shift] + [REC]

Pressing shift on screens with a row of commands at the bottom will sometimes reveal additional commands. This works on the effects edit, microscope, sampling, and favorite screens.
