Hi!
I recently started using my FA-08 in live performances, but have not figured out a very good way to create a simple flow - within one performed song - between different studio sets, as often is necessary. It is not enough for me to mute and activate parts of a studio set with the pads, since keyboard ranges etc. may vary withing a song, so there really must be intra-song transition between Studio Sets. Also, loading a lot of sounds into a Studio Set takes system resources; even when you mute sounds and play 2 with 14 muted, they are all "playing" in the sense that they use your available polyphony. The Partial Select function again only selects one sound, which is a really peculiar design choice. Why not make it possible by Pad to select the ones that are playing, rather than muting the ones that are not? Or is there something here I haven't figured out?
Anyway, for instance, I might need one set for the Intro, another for verse 1, a different for choruses 1-2, a yet different for verse 2 and there might be a solo part, interlude, C-part, bridge, outro and, well, you all know all about that.
Of course, I could set up favourites that follow each other and switch by assigned pedal or so, but it is not really a convenient way. Certainly not one that I would prefer. The order might not always be linear. I might first go from Studio Set 1 to Studio Set 2, but the next time to SS 8 and then to number 5.
It would be perfect just to have one song part selected with one button - say Pad 1 - and another with the next one - Pad 2, etc. and depending on song structure, I would simply transition between song parts by pressing a pad. That would work for up to 16 parts, which is definitely enough for pop music purposes.
My band does not use any sequenced stuff, and does not play to a click, so I never really thought about setting up Songs in the FA-08 for live performances. But it occurs to me that it might we a way - perhaps the only way ? - to have a smooth intra-song transition between multiple Studio Sets. But it is kind of silly, since nothing will be playing from the sequencer, which is what the Song set-up is for. And how to I move from one part to another smoothly by pressing one and only one control once?
So please advise me, if you can, on how to build a song structure with multiple Studio Sets and easy manual/footswitch transition between them.
Multiple Studio Sets in one song?
Re: Multiple Studio Sets in one song?
Hi,
You should learn about Switch Groups via PADs function.
Check out this youtube tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpQEYj-MXVU
You can have up to 16 different combinations of layers/splits and range, selected with the PADs.
Is recommended to use only one Studio Set per song to avoid the sound cut, however you can use same studio set for several songs.
See examples of how to play real songs using the PADs to switch between several combinations of parts:

Re: Multiple Studio Sets in one song?
Thanks. Nice videos that also demonstrate that the FA-07 works well as a lightweight and affordable all-in-one solution for keyboard players in cover bands.tchelomgf wrote: ↑02:01, 28 February 2023 See examples of how to play real songs using the PADs to switch between several combinations of parts:

Re: Multiple Studio Sets in one song?
Yes, thanks, I figured this out too once I realised that it was available when you updated the software. What a game-changer!
