MX-1: Too narrow stereo field on stereo inputs

Post by kimsnarf »

Hi

I have just acquired an MX-1. Lots of fun!

However, the stereo field when listening to the stereo inputs (5/6 and SPDIF) is much too narrow compared to the sound before it enters the MX-1. The difference is very noticeable on headphones!

On the mono inputs it is possible to set the pan to the extreme left and right (for the left and right mono inputs respectively) to get the correct (wide) stereo field. Unfortunately, this is not possible on the stereo inputs. On the stereo inputs the "pan" just pans the whole signal left or right, it doesn't narrow or widen the field.

Does anyone know a way around this? Is this normal in mixers? As it is I'm currently using the stereo inputs as mono, since the stereo field is not fully stereo anyway. I hope I have misunderstood something or that this will be fixed in a future update. Either by Roland increasing the default stereo field width or by allowing it to be modified.
