Running TB3 on USB battery?

Post by totalcult »

Hi all,

Newcomer here. I've read a couple of places that people are successfully running the TB3 using a USB battery/charger/powerpack - making it super portable. BUT I've not read any specifics about what makes/models of powerpack are suitable.

Does anyone have any recommendations of suitable chargers/batteries? Or anything to look for / avoid?

Would an Anker Powercore 20100 (4.8A output) do it? Or the Powercore+ 20100 (6A output)?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely?

Thanks in advance,

I just tried mine with a 50,000mAh 5v power pack, used the 1A outlet and it worked fine. My power pack is nothing special, bought it from Lidl .......

It's mostly the spec of the TB3 that are important:

Power Supply
AC adaptor, or obtained via USB port (USB bus power)
Current Draw
500 mA

so, yes, a battery pack that supplies at least 1/2 amp, np as long as it supplies the correct voltage. A lot of devices are powered by USB connections. Almost all battery packs can produce more current than a USB port at 5V dc.
