TR-8 7x7 update - why the removal of tom midi notes?

As the title suggest, I'm curious why in the 7x7 update they removed half the midi notes for toms?

See below the differences, but anyone got any idea why they would have done this? I can see some of the changed notes on the full chart have new instruments (Bass drum now has BD1 and BD2, etc), but the secondary tom triggers are just removed. It's a bit annoying that I have to go through old midi files and reprogram the notes or (in the rare event I use my PC for music) set up a few midi routers for the right notes.
