TR-8 'neutral' settings for new controls

Post by lukkerdukker »

Hi Clan

The TR-8 has new knobs that the previous TR family didn't have. Does anybody know what the 'default' or 'neutral' position for these would be in order to sound closest to the original TRs, i.e. to cancel out the effect of these controls? I presume it would be the '12 o'clock' position, except for compression where it would be the 'off' position.

For example: the TR-808 Bass drum does not have an attack knob, whereas the TR-808 snare drum does not have a decay knob - what would the position be on the 'new' TR-8 bass attack / snare decay knobs to replicate the TR-808? Or the cymbal decay on the 909?

Does anyone think it would be worthwhile having the option to disable these in a future firmware upgrade? I think it would be interesting, especially in light of the release of the TR-09 which is more faithful to the original's limitations.

Also, are the 'tune' knobs on the TR-8 the same as 'tone' knobs on the TR-808?

Thanks!
