Recording automation for System-1 VST from System-1 synth

Im trying to record (midi) automation for System-1 VST from System-1 synth (i.e. use system-1 as dedicated midi controller) in ableton.
System-1 VST responds to system-1 synth controls when editing patches in DAW. Patches can be also sent/received in between the synth and VST. But when I try to record (VST) knob movement in to ableton´s arrangement view (by using synth as controller) nothing is recorded. Actually VST stops responding to controls sent from synth when hitting the record in ableton. Strangely enough if I move the VST knob with mouse that gets immediately recorded.
Is it just my set up that messing around or am I missing some settings? System-1 synth is set to midi controller mode and System-1 CTRL ports are turned off from ableton´s midi settings.
