AIRA TR-8 and Linux USB MIDI issues
Posted: 04:47, 5 September 2017
Here are some issues and solutions for using the TR-8 on (Ubuntu) Linux.
[1] When the TR-8 is not connected in ALSA to receive data from the host, but is connect via a USB cable and a pattern is started on the TR-8, the playback is not in time.
Solution: Connect any ALSA port (even virtual) to the TR-8 ALSA write/input port.
[2] When the TR-8 output is not connected in ALSA to send data to the host, but its connected via a USB cable, playing a note from the host via USB to the TR-8, the notes sometimes is skipped or delayed.
Solution: Connect any ALSA port (even virtual) to the TR-8 ALSA read/output port
The issues do not happen when the USB cable is disconnected.
In other words, to let the TR-8 play notes and patterns and notes correctly under Linux, always connect the in and output to some port in ALSA.
I am interested to know if these same issues occur with other ACB based products under Linux ? (SYSTEM 1/1m/8, BOUTIQUES etc..). Other non-AIRA USB MIDI products, even from Roland, don't experience such issues.
