TR-8s Alternate sounds

So some instruments have alternate sounds, coded by holding down the instrument button and pressing a step (goes purple, like the TR-8), and those sounds have a "/" between the 2 sounds it uses. My query is how can we choose the alternate sound, and also is there a way to use 2 samples - one for the main sound and another for the alternate, or is it an internal thing only for specific instruments/tones?

My aim is to make the alternate sound on my ride cymbal into a bell sound on a custom kit.

You can't choose the alternate sounds. They are what they are. Also, all the sounds with '/' in the name are ACB modelled, not samples, so you won't be able to make your own:-(
