Start/stop TR-8S with MC-707 using USB only

Post by giacecco »

Hi All,
I've got both devices, using USB to send the audio for playback to my Mac without the use of a DAW (I playback through an aggregate audio device) and it works amazing.

However, I still need a MIDI cable between the two devices to start/stop the TR-8S. There is no combination of settings I could find between MIDI Studio and the devices that makes so that TR-8S reads the start / stop messages coming from the MC-707. I believe that the TR-8S gets the clock correctly (I see ---- instead of a number on the display) but it doesn't start or stop, not even manually.

In case you wondered: these are key TR-8S settings I believe I got right:
SYNC/TEMPO > TempoSync = USB
SYNC/TEMPO > SyncOut = OFF
SYNC/TEMPO > RxStartStop = ON

On the Mac, using MIDI Monitor, I see the start / stop messages going out of the MC-707.

If I use a DAW between the two devices to explicitly do the routing, it works nicely,

MIDI Studio is configured to have the MC-707 out to the TR-8S... what else could be missing?!? Thanks!

are they both set to send/receive messages on the right channel?

does your midi interface do virtual patching? it might only be a thru to DAW?
