I like to use Ableton clips to play the TR8s rather than using its internal sequencer. It's looking though like there is no way adjust the note length/decay of individual notes, Ableton's sent notes just trigger the sounds on in the TR8s and the note length in the clip is redundant.
Is there any way to fix this?
TR8s receive MIDI note length messages
Re: TR8s receive MIDI note length messages
That's pretty standard behaviour for a percussion instrument - note on triggers the sound but note off doesn't do anything. If you want to vary the decay you've got a few options:
1. Use midi control changes, eg CC81 will alter the open hat (OH) decay, CC28 will alter the snare drum (SD) decay.
2. If you want regular changes, eg alternating long and short decay, use the LFO. For example, set the kit LFO to a sine wave synced to 8 steps, turn the OH decay down, assign the OH LFO to decay and turn the depth up a bit - this will give you alternating long and short open high hats if they're on the off beats.
3. If you want to specify the decay for each note individually, you could maybe assign the same instrument to different slots. For example, have "909 Open HH" in both the LT and MT slots, one with a long decay and one with short.
There are probably lots of other ways, but those should give you an idea.
