TR-8 Integration with SP404 MK2

Greets:
I have recently learned that there had been a firmware update to the TR-8 a few years ago that featured integration with the SP404A and X to have samples triggered on the SP by the sequencer on the TR-8, as well as layering sample atop of a drum part.

I have spent several days attempting to do this on my SP404 MK2, but so far I do not have any luck. I know that there's some sound being triggered, but I have not nailed it down and I know it's not from the currently chosen bank that both the TR-8 and SP are pointing to. It could be that the way MIDI is sent/receive might differ; I did not see how to set it properly on the MK2, whereas setting MIDI was different on the A model.

Again, I know that I"m close, but my brain is mush so could use some assistance in getting similar results to the SP404A, if possible.
