Dumb question about light on front panel

Certainly, this is in one of the manuals.. but I was asked recently, what the four lights / design above and to the right of the Program Selection/Sequence are for? Have no idea.. :o

I believe those are to show what scale setting you're set to when you're using the pattern sequencer. They correspond to the lines to the left of the LEDs, which are above the 16 step buttons.
