Quick Sequence pattern tip

Post by Jdoo »

Looking for some pattern inspiration, or just some pre-built patterns to download? This is based on a post in the Roland FA-06/08 section of the Forums by user Lunar: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=53080#p299201
Go to the Jupiter 80 Axial page and download the Synth Legends pack, in the folder you will find a sub-folder called Arpeggio Patterns. These are just short MIDI sequences (SMF) for the JP80 but will work on the FA when imported to a user arpeggio slot. Nearly 300 of them including some good bass arps & patterns designed specifically for the Synth Legends tones on the JP80 - the TB-303 sequences are particularly good - and they work great with the almost identical Integra/FA legends pack. Some sequences are duplicated in the Pattern motif of the preset FA arps, but most seem to be original.

For the JD-XA, things are slightly different. These arpeggio patterns will load, but as SEQ patterns, which can be imported. Steps are nearly the same. Download and unzip the MID file that are in the ARPEGGIO_PATTERNS folder of the Jupiter-80 Synth_legends zip. These get copied (not the folders, but the MID files inside of them) to a JD-XA Formatted USB drive, Place them in this directory: JDXA/IMPORT

Here are a couple of tips.. Not 100% conversant with the Arpeggiator — so these may be a little off.
- When you import a Sequence pattern (like the ones, above), by default it will load into Part 1. That is Analog Part 1. You can copy the sequence to another part, but initially - that’s what you will hear, when you hit “Play”
- If you want to demo the Sequence, without loading it. While on the IMPORT menu, hold the Play button down, and the sequence will play, as long as you have the Play button held down. <-- a great way to hear the sequences before you commit / load em.
- There is no rule that says you have to throw all 250+ of these sequences into the IMPORT folder. If you have extra USB drives… format them on the JD-XA, and drop whatever Sequences you want to try out into the JDXA/IMPORT folder. I created one for DRUM sequences (which are in the 06-Originals folder, named TB … . I also found the Chords / and Originals (Juno and Jupiter) to have some nuggets .. but also some duplicates of whats on Axial. In any case — the point is, you can break up the sequences onto different USB drives, so you’re not scrolling through a bazillion of them
- File names. Some of the files may not show up on the IMPORT window. I had to remove parenthesis from the filenames for them to appear.
