System 8 in your JD-XA?

Post by Jdoo »

There seems to be a load of folks who love the Roland plug-outs for their System 8. In fact... i think it ships with the Jupiter-8 and Juno-60 plug-outs. If you are someone who uses Axial and the LIbrarian with your JD-XA - you probably have already loaded up the "Crossover Impressions" programs on Axial JD-XA. If you are a Librarian user, that's a great set of bread-and-butter traditional Roland tones. It includes Sequences, and Arps that really show what you can do. Once downloaded and put onto a USB.. it is somewhat similar to a System 8 plugout.

But wait.. that's only 16 programs.. And - there are a lot more pads, strings, tones than just the Jupiter-8 or Juno-60. Worse... maybe you havent had success with the Librarian, and have no desire to suffer through the connection, loss of connection, hassles. . of using Axial connection from your JD-XA. What other options are there? Well -- there are the Axial Integra-7 Collections. 17 sets. Some are slathered in effects, some are dry. Most all of them, can be loaded into your JD-XA though. So -- you can grab the Juno-60 Collection, and load it onto a USB drive - and make all 16 of those tones available to your JD-XA. Each of the Junos... take a single digital part. So... with a little effort - you could put the 16 parts onto 4 programs ( each program can store 4 digital parts). Or ... you can create a bank of Juno-60 programs... and have those available.

In order to convert the Integra sounds to JD-XA friendly format (and not all Integra sounds are compatible), it's best to use the Librarian... or find someone who has the Librarian, and has converted / loaded the patches. There are youtube vids and good Roland directions on how to do it. I've converted a few of them, and am including a link here to the Juno-106 bank. These would need to be unzipped onto a JD-XA formatted USB drive.. and pulled onto your JD-XA. It takes a minute. Then.. you have a Juno-60 Plugout.

There are 17 Integra sets... covering D-50, SH101, TB303, etc... Put these onto a USB... and you have the ease of what the System 8 brings to the table. I.E. adding iconic synth sounds, easily.

Hi Joe

Thanks for this. I have just added them to my JD XA.

Are you doing anymore?

I am a week away from buying the System 8. Now what am I to do :) The 106 sounds on your zip are simply awesome.

I don't have the librarian.

Thank you once again.

Yeah... I have the following zipped up:
D50
JUNO-60
JUNO-106
JUPITER-6
JUPITER-8
SH101
SUPERSAW

Some of these have more than the 16 programs than can go into a directory... so I broke them into multiple folders. I'll upload then in a short bit. Glad someone other than me sees the value. There is just a boatload of good stuff in here...

That's it. . Please let me know, if these are incomplete or missing bits.

Joe

Wait, not it. Here is a program (
Africa3.zip

) that I made with an analog brass I made + digital bits from the Integra collection (mildly edited for this song). Toto Africa. Top octave has marimba percussion... play those softly for the bridge bits

What a gift.

To anybody who owns a JDXA, they all work and they sound amazing.

Cheers again Joe.

Great series of posts jDoo - all this takes time and is appreciated!

Great notion of course - getting these iconic 'plugout' sounds on the XA - bravo :)

Awesome .. theres a couple of patches in there that I have turned into monster analog sounds ... the sort that gets you standing at your synth with the volume up ... playing massive chords without a care in world .. brilliant and thank you .. they prove beyond doubt what this tool can really do... Ive searched for long enough for these base wave forms too in the JDXA, just didnt get the right combinations of them and effects until now !

Cool. Glad folks are finding value in the sets. I did too. To be clear though - I didn't create the programs. I only downloaded them off Axial, and converted the ones that can be read by the JD-XA. :) Roland had provided these from the beginning, and even documented how to load them. I just don't think they did a very good job of spreading the word, that these could be used in the JD-XA.

Cheers all

Joe
