Bastle Kastle and the Roland JD-XA.

Post by Doug_Horizon »

Hello.

Does anyone know how to sync the signal from the Bastle Kastle to the Roland JD-XA's step sequencer's master tempo?

Regards.

It kind of depends upon what "sync the signal" means, doesn't it?

Since that could mean a bunch of different things, it's up to you to detail which one(s).

Then it will be possible to answer your questions without unnecessary confusion.

This came up on the facebook jd-xa group - here's how to get a pulse-sync device (eg volca, kastle, pocket operator) synced to the jd-xa:

- - -

For Korg Volca:

init patch

connect GATE OUT 1 on jd-xa to the sync in socket on your device (eg sync in on
volca)

press MIDI CTRL on jd-xa (so it's playing/recording midi channel 9 into sequencer)

go to MENU > SYSTEM >CV/GATE1 OUT - set it to ctrl Ch = 9

press STEP REC on jd-xa and light up every other step of the 16 step buttons eg 01, 03, 05..15

press play on sequencer and this will output the necessary pulses to keep the volca in time with the jd-xa.

note: might need to enable every step, or just every 4th step depending on the sync needs of the device.

Yes it did, and it was answered at length and in detail there even though the OP didn't really seem to understand the concepts of CV, gate and clock signals, couldn't coherently describe what he meant by "sync" and failed to read the answers that were given. I'm certainly not going to repeat all my posts from Facebook here to help someone who won't listen.

The question should by directed to Bastl. Just ask them how to connect a CV and gate sequencer to the Kastle module.

Pretty vitriolic stuff given the only other person who posted at length there said it couldn't be done without external hardware!
Even so, the JD-XA doesn't output a voltage clock. There's no way of doing it without external hardware like a Kenton MIDI to CV interface

Nobody minds helping someone who genuinely wants to learn, and who endeavors to feed themselves to point where they can go no further without assistance.

It's damned irritating however, to constantly see questions from people who put in zero effort of their own, won't even TRY to understand anything, but want everything handed to them on a platter ... even when they can't/won't tell you what it is they want to do in the first place.

The former is encouraging and inspiring. Unfortunately, most forums trend more towards the latter.

I hear what you're saying, but Doug really wasn't being like that - he was given bad advice by someone who seems to have then came here and bashed him!

Even now it seems GilgaFrank can't grasp that syncing the kastle with the jd-xa was solved - with the solution written directly above his post here telling Doug to contact Bastl...
