Maybe it is best to think of the JDXi as sound module and don't use the keys?
That is exactly what I would do if I had one, and I take this opportunity to ask you about how the keybed is connected to the main board.
Is it by the flat cable that is seen in a couple of your photos?
or just at the edge of the keybed (not shown) as in all other Roland synths/controllers?

Thanks
Paulo
The keybed is one unit (contains 3 sections) that is attached by the one flat cable.

Is that true? Are all of the keys in a section combined into a single piece of plastic?

In other words, there are no separate keys? No A key, no B key, etc.?

That is correct, the white keys are grouped by octave and are one piece.
Each octave (and there are 3 octaves, so 3 section pieces) is one connected plastic piece.
The hinges for each key is a thin plastic connection, If that cracks or breaks well.....oooops!

Ufff... me too to my broken A-800 PRO and PCR-500.

The MIDI OUT port on both is faulty but the keybeds are perfect, so I was thinking maybe it is compatible with the JD-Xi and maybe I can transform it on a JD-XXXi (EXXpanded JD-Xi with a 49 or 61 Keys w/ Velocity and Aftertouch) LOL

Wow. That's really a cheap kind of construction.
Does anyone know if this keybed can be replaced by something better, like Korgs MicroKeys?
But we all knew that 400€ are cheap for a 128 voice Supernatural+ Analog + Drums + 4 part sequencer synth.
The keybed sadly is just something like a bonus.

I think Roland opted for the wrong form factor.

Now jokes apart, I think that it can still be used as a module, even with that mini "keybad"

in my view theJD-Xi really deserves be used with a proper keyboard

It is a great little synth with a great sound, fun and inspirational to play, need to bypass the bad keybed.

Hi Richard,

just curious, how did the repair go? Did they made a fuzz about warranty, did you had to do the replacement yourself (with a replacement part), or were you able to send it off for repair?

Also, did you made any pictures from the motherboard itself?

Hope it turned out fine for you,

Cheers,
Albert

Hi Richard,

I would like to see pictures of JDXi motherboard too. Could you post it here please?

Cheers,
Cesarsound.
