Sonar Instrument Definition file for the JD-Xi?

Post by lepoovre »

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if there exists an instrument definition file (.ins) for the JD-Xi to be used in Sonar?
I have been searching for a couple of days (Cakewalk / Roland websites), but nothing found so far.

Thanks for any tip.

Just in case you are still looking for a JD-Xi Cakewalk INS file I created one today.

It's available in this thread.

Hi Gary,

Thanks very much for your time and efforts!
The INS file highly appreciated. I'll try it out over the week-end.

You're very welcome.

Let me know if you find any bugs in it.

So far for me it seems to be working as it should.

It really isn't all that hard to import and assign instruments in any Cakewalk Product.

Step 1} Go to Options/MIDI Devices to make certain your device is recognized and activated.

Step 2] Got to Options/Instruments and then click on the Define button on the dialogue that appears. This brings up another dialogue that has an Import button. Click on that and a file selector appears which you can use to load the INS file.

Step 3] Use Shift Click or Control Click from the Instruments menu to highlight the MIDI channels of the device and point them at the instruments you wish to select on the right side of the window.

This process has not changed a lick on any version of Cakewalk I've used in the past 20 years and once it's complete you can select any instrument you'd like from your machine's repertoire directly with a right or left click on each track's edit parameters.

Cakewalk also puts out complete series of video tutorials on all their products explaining everything the software is capable of.

Here's one on instrument definitions.

Hope this helps :)
