Is it possible Roland will add swing capabilities to the sequencer in a software update?

I really hope so. It seems like an unusual omission.

probability of occurence is zero. reason: on the back of the jd-xi they want us to purchase the £300 sbx-1 sync box which gives control over swing. without a proper swing function the jd-xi is for kraftwerk fanboys only.

Kraftwerk, heh, yup.

Given that the sync box is the same price as the JD-Xi, I doubt that upselling is their strategy. Roland knows that we can get swing with virtually any external hardware or software sequencer. Even my $199 Zoom beat box has it. That's why the lack of swing wasn't a deal-breaker for me.

Even though they are marketing the JD-Xi as a dance machine, there are plenty of DJs and EDM producers that use swing in their songs. It seems like a small addition that would make the product an even hotter seller.

Roland added swing (called "Shuffle") with JD-Xi firmware 1.5.

Here is a video that shows how to set it, courtesy of "For Synth's Sake": https://youtu.be/9qkOXJOzy7g

Enjoy.
