Saving tones

Post by darkstar679 »

Hi,

you can load tones to a pattern but how about saving tones only?
So that you can use your own tones on any program you like?

Anyone tried to save tones?

you can't save them, which is bs... hope it gets an update for this function.

within the roland-created presets on the JDXI (the demo patterns) there are 512 tones which are used, but aren't saved in the banks... there are only 256 tones within the banks to choose from! i would love to be able to get at these other 512 tones (easily)

why aren't these other 512 tones available in the banks? and why can't we save our own tweaked tone?!

this is a major let down.

you can save your tone as a pattern, but not in the bank. very user unfriendly.

True, there are preset banks but I found out that you can save your created tones within a program and you can copy each tone between different programs.
That gives a lot flexibility.

I find that working with user patched and patters and saving them and naming them is a real pain. Is there something I am missing? Is there an easier way to name patched/patterns?

Maybe time for Roland to make a software/app component to this product that would allow JD-Xi users to easier manage their work and sounds on the device.

Hi there,
I joined this board just to add my +1 to ask Roland to make saving tones possible. (Not in programs).

Best regards,
Martin

I don't think that the Design of the JD-xi provide this.
All tones are linked to programs.

There are actually four internal RAM banks for tones (patch programs) inside the JD-Xi.
When you save a "Program" with user sounds, they are saved internally to one of these slots in the internal RAM bank.
The ROM banks occupy 001-256, and the RAM banks at 301-812.

With Sysex command, you're able to read and write into the full RAM banks. The "Tone" number selection commands are as follows:

Tone Select: F0 41 10 00 00 00 0E 12 18 00 20 08 val cs F7
Bank Select MSB: F0 41 10 00 00 00 0E 12 18 00 20 06 5F 63 F7
Bank Select LSB:
ROM 1 001-128 F0 41 10 00 00 00 0E 12 18 00 20 07 40 00 F7
ROM 2 129-256 F0 41 10 00 00 00 0E 12 18 00 20 07 41 00 F7
RAM 1 301-428 F0 41 10 00 00 00 0E 12 18 00 20 07 00 41 F7
RAM 2 429-556 F0 41 10 00 00 00 0E 12 18 00 20 07 01 40 F7
RAM 3 557-684 F0 41 10 00 00 00 0E 12 18 00 20 07 02 3F F7
RAM 4 685-812 F0 41 10 00 00 00 0E 12 18 00 20 07 03 3E F7

There are probably MSB-LSB equivalent in CC land.

Whenever you save a user program, you can find your own user tone by browsing the RAM banks listed above.
You can also use Baz55's JD-Xi Manager to save the Tones into .syx files and organise them in the PC.

If anyone's interested, I can dig more into the sysex commands for bank management purposes.
