Selecting bank with MSB and LSB sysx from Motif

Post by n0rby »

I am stuck, and I would appreciate a hint.

I am trying to control the Jd-Xi from a Yamaha Motif as the Yamaha have some nice Master Layer functions, which should do the trick. - But it doesn't.

I think I am missing some piece of info and I hope someone knows what it might be.

In the Motif, there is a nice menu for defining the following in e.g. midi channel 1:
(example)
MSB: 085
LSB: 064
Pgm: 001

The above should give me: jd-Xi preset bank A, program 1.
But it doesn't. - It just give me a message in the front panel of the jdXi: "000". Like it is waiting for some other command. But the bank doesn't change and no sound can be produced until i select a new bank manually on the jdxi front.

If I only choose a new tone, it works perfect, but it stays in the same Bank, which doesn't choose effects.
I don't want to have to send effect changes also.

e.g. This work from the Motif, if it is the only thing I send.
I.e. I get superNatural Synth tone program 1 from the following:
MSB: 095
LSB: 064
Pgm: 001

I thought perhaps I had to send both commands (from two layers), but no matter what I do, I get the "stupid treatment" from jdXi if I try to send any bank select message.

I am only using midi channel 1 for all the above, which I would think was fine.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong ? - I don't understand why the tone commands work when the bank coammands doesn't work.

hmm. when I woke up this morning I thought that perhaps it's because Bank select commands only work in midi channel 16 (or whatever tx/rx-channel ths jdXi is set to)... I'll try that tonight and we'll see....

Have you tried to do the opposite? Record a track on your Motif and recall a patch on JD-Xi.
Assuming JD-Xi's MIDI OUT is connected to Motif's MIDI IN, you should be able to record bank change AND program change events.

Yep - That was it - Fairly logical in hindsight.
