Using pitched sounds in the drum machine

Post by Briany »

I can't be the only person who's found this 'trick', but because you can assign any sound from the percussion library to the drum section, you can take a few of the samples on there that come from pitched instruments and assign one or more of them to keys that would normally be assigned to drum sounds you never use anyway. It's limited in the sense that there are really only a couple of decent pitched sounds I've found, but you can tweak them a bit to make them sit a little bit better in the mix. Have them play certain background parts and things like that. Gives you 2.1 digital synth parts to mess with, you could say...

Just wanted to list out ways that I know of to stretch the capabilities of the synth a bit more, and see if there's anything to add:-

The drum machine trick above
The 'key follow' setting trick to create a primitive keyboard split
Holding a note and then changing tones, and the first tone sustains (as long as you hold it down)
