Boutique synths can run on batteries or USB bus power.
This may be a stupid question but could the boitique synths run on a cell phone power adaptor?

Not sure about that, all I know is all my USB cables in my house are the wrong ones, they take a USB microB cable. I ordered 2 cables from Amazon.Synthtron wrote:Boutique synths can run on batteries or USB bus power.

Until the cables come I am using batteries.
Re: Power Options
Maybe something like a USB Charger would work?
Here is one on Amazon with 6 USB ports:
http://www.amazon.com/Hapurs-6-Ports-Ch ... er+adaptor
I am curious because I do not want to have mine tethered to a computer for power and replaceing batteries for power. I see under the specs the units can use rechargable batteries so I guess you can charge those batteries in the devices. I am not sure yet.

confirmed the unit works with rechargeable batteries and it also works on a standard phone usb cable.
see photo.

Re: Power Options
The Roland Boutique series support power through the Roland MX-1 mixer.
I created a separate thread for the Boutiques and the MX-1.

Re: Power Options
for those who may see this first through search,
i posted that using portable power banks can also power these synths.

Re: Power Options
Yes, use your phone charger. Something I posted over at another forum:
USB power, like the boutique series uses, is going to become very common in the near future. It may seem a little odd now but it will become the natural and most convenient way of powering devices. Roland is leading with an eco-friendly move here and one that is ultimately most convenient for the buyer.
When you lose the power supply for device-xx, where can you get another compatible one? On the other hand the world has too many power adaptors from dead products.
IEC recently set a world standard that specifies that electronic devices should all use the same adaptor type whenever possible, based on a USB connection. One adaptor/charger can be used for your phone, computer, synthesizer, or any other electronic device. In a few years very few devices will come with an adaptor, you simply use the ones you already own, use your USB power bar, or ports are built into your wall sockets. Consumers ultimately save money because they do not buy as many adaptors. Power supplies can be repurposed for other devices instead of becoming waste. Devices cost less because they don't come with a unique power supply or with any power supply at all. Everybody wins.

Jp-08 power draw
since its in the keybed, there is a speaker. when i played some sounds and cranked up the volume, the current did not fluctuate much.
Re: Power Options
I purchased an inexpensive USB power charger and
I Noticed there was some strange noise coming from the JX-03, JU-06 but not my JP-08.
I used a couple old cell phone chargers and they work with no stange noises.

I just received my Apple USB power unit and everything works perfectly!!!!!!Synthtron wrote:I purchased an inexpensive USB power charger and

No more wasting batteries, no more noise, and 8 voice polyphony with both JP's powered up.
Yeah!!
So far for me the Apple iPhone USB power unit is the only thing that has worked so far to power up the JP-08 other than the USB to computer, which would make the strange noise if 2 or more JP-08's were connected.
Note: some USB power units out there on the market don't necessarily work or for some reason won't power up the up the synth?

@richardbates1
Glad you got it working man.
I tried a couple of other usb hubs I have around and no good. No real loss as I can't access the external midi control via usb anyway so I will continue with the PSU.

Re: Power Options
Just to save others the time and expense, this particular Poweradd 25W 5 Port USB charger will have the noise issue as well. It's a great little adapter, but plugging two Boutiques into it will power them, but result in the noise.

Also, I thought I'd be clever and get some 1 foot MIDI DIN cables and USB cords, just to cut down on the amount of wasted cord space for two Boutiques side-by-side. It's too tight a squeeze. The DINs eat up a couple of inches leaving only about 9 inches of actual length, and the space between the MIDI In/Outs is about 10 inches. It might work well for a more vertical setup in some sort of stand, but as it is it didn't save me any frustration or space.

ive 3 jp08s with an a-800 using the above and going into an mx1 usb with no issues.
i do understand that by using the master jp in the mx1 host/usb its not connected to the same power as the other two, and also by using usb as audio this may also excuse any noise.
im using ferrite core 1 foot usb cables and din midi cables plus shielded 3.5mm audio cables.

Re: Power Options
I got 2 JP-08 and put in polychain: when they are powered from the same USB device (or pc or cell charger etc..) AND the audio from one is put on input of the other, there is digital noise: a classical case of ground loop between the digital and analog paths. Easy solution is power them with 2 different power supply and the noise will disappear
