JU-06 Step Sequencer starts automatically in Ableton

Post by ?Marc »

hi guys,
hope someone can help me. i want to work with my new JU-06 in Ableton Live 9.5. I have plugged-in the JU-06 via USB to my MacBook Pro, I dont plug it into my external soundcard (Audio 2 DJ). The MIDI ports in Ableton are set to the following:

Input: Boutique: Track ON, Sync ON, Remote ON
Output: Boutique: Track ON, Sync ON, Remote ON

Once I hit play in Ableton, the Roland automatically starts playing its own Step Sequencer, even I don't have it switched on. I even have a MIDI file in Ableton playing certain notes, but the Sequencer keeps running, playing its own melody. I then have to hit "CHORUS 2 + MANUAL" to enter the Step Sequencer and then have to hit STOP//MANUAL.
This is quite annoying, especially when you think about wanting to record a certain MIDI pattern to Audio, but first have to stop the Roland's Sequencer.

If the MIDI settings in Ableton are set to

Input: Boutique: Track ON, Sync O F F, Remote ON
Output: Boutique: Track ON, Sync O F F, Remote ON

the Step Sequencer does not start, but then of course my Roland is not syncrone to my Ableton session (for delays, LFO etc). In fact I dont need the Step Sequencer at all, because I have my MIDI keyboard + my MIDI files in Ableton. So how do I sync my Roland with Ableton without having the Step Sequencer running / doing its own thing?

I also have the JP-08, with this one I do not have that issue at all.

Hope you understand what I mean & someone can help me.

Thx

Can't remember where I read it, but set the sync from AUTO to INTERNAL and it will not start the sequencer.

Mhhh, where can I do that? In the MIDI / Sync settings of Ableton I just can turn Sync ON, or OFF:

Input: Boutique: Track ON, Sync ON or OFF, Remote ON
Output: Boutique: Track ON, Sync ON or OFF, Remote ON

Like this.

On the JU-06 itself.

[MANUAL]+[3] (= midi clock source)

[1] for AUTO (which is default)
[2] INTERNAL

So you should set it to 2, internal.

This does not allow the sequencer to comunicate with the DAW though.. which is not an ideal solution.
Does anybody know how to avoid the sequencer to start , but still have it receiving midi clock?

Just a thought, but it is possible to set a filter on it, and filter out the MIDI start/stop from the MIDI stream in your DAW?

I got around it by just making my first pattern empty. That way I can use the sequencer when I want, but by default it's not making a noise.
