New firmware v1.20 for JU-06 and JP-08 (May 2017)

Post by cloudburst »

Just a heads up that a firmware update (version 1.20) is now available - for the JU-06 and JP-08 only.

This update allows the JU-06 and JP-08 to act as controllers for Roland's JUNO-106 and JUPITER-8 software synthesizers in a DAW.

I discovered this evening that the update also allows the JU-06 to control the Juno 106 plug-out on the System-8 itself. Same with the JP-08 and the Jupiter 8 plug-out on the S8. Put the Boutique into CTRL mode (power on while holding Patch Preset 8), make sure the System 8 is set to MIDI channel 1 for patch mode and enable it to receive MIDI commands, switch to the proper plug-out synth and, voilà, you've got a System 8 with (small!) Juno 106 or J8 controls.

When you switch patches on the Boutique, it sends all the CC data of the patch to the System 8. So you could transfer all your Boutique JP-08 patches, one by one, to the System 8 Jupiter 8? Have you tried this?

FYI, purchased a System 8, assuming I could transfer my JP-08 and JU-06 Boutique patches into it.

NOT.

System 8 does not have this functionality - it only allows your JU-06 or JP-08 to send live CC signals (when you move a slider/knob) for some of the parameters, but will not allow a patch transfer. Big oversight by Roland.
