SH-01a question

I'd like to start a sequence on the SH-01a to play its internal synth via onboard sequencer, while also triggering via midi an external synth. So start the sequencer for the internal synth while playing notes on an external synth via the connected K25 keyboard. Is this possible? Thanks much for anyone responding.
