Any advantage of chaining a D-05 with a D-05?

Post by vst_twc »

I know that some of the other boutiques, like the JP-08 benefit from chaining in order to get 8 voice polyphony, but I think the D-05 already has 16 voice polyphony. So is there any advantage to chaining two D-05s? I'm not talking about layering, I'm talking about using full chain mode.

I own a real D50 and not the D05 yet.

I can't remember the exact terminology as I have it out on loan at the moment but I am sure the D50's polyphony is reduced to 8 notes when certain combinations of partials (?) are used. Generally the thicker sounds I guess... Iirc 2 partials = 16 note polyphony and 4 partials = 8 note polyphony.
So theoretically chaining two D05's would get you double this amount but do we know if the D05 supports chain mode?

This is a very good question, I just assumed that it would. I've always wanted a D-50 but I only have experience with older Rolands like Junos. Calculating Polyphony is much simpler than with the D-50/D-05 ha ha
