How to synthesize this bass sound on SE-02?

Post by Sugar382 »

Just picked up the SE-02, it's my first synth so I'm still learning how to synthesize sounds I'm looking for.

Does anyone know how to get this sound on the Roland SE-02? The bass comes in at :019

OR this sound? Bass comes in at 0:12

Thanks so much!

You should certainly be able to get a similar sound on the SE-02, however it's quite difficult to tell you how to do it through a forum. Please don't take this the wrong way, because it is not intended to be snarky - the simple answer is: you need to learn synthesis. There are about 1,000,000 books, videos, magazine articles etc. which can teach you the fundamentals of analogue subtractive synthesis (which is what you are doing with the SE-02).

Beyond learning the basics of synthesis, the second answer to your question is to experiment and use your ears; you will learn how different setting of controls change the shape of the sound, the "color" of the sound and the ways it changes over time. As you experiment you will find things you like and things you don't like as much; these become your habits and tools and you begin to be able to express yourself with this electronic instrument.

The only real answer is: put in the time to learn the basics and to explore. Your'e at the beginning of a great adventure - have fun! The journey is the reward.

Cheers,
